Server-side junk filtering occurs on the mail server such as Exchange as soon as email messages arrive in the mailbox. Client-side junk filtering occurs on the client such as Outlook and Outlook for Mac when email messages are downloaded from the server to the client.
Instead, it only relies on the mail server to perform all junk mail filtering. Email messages are not scanned client-side by Outlook for Mac to determine whether they are junk mail.
How Do I Set Up My Exchange Email Account With Mac Mail?
Exchange servers provide server-side junk mail filtering, and most popular email providers, such as Hotmail, Outlook. This behavior makes client-side Outlook junk filtering redundant.
When you connect to an Exchange or a later version mailbox including Exchange OnlineOutlook for Mac does not let you add safe senders. If Outlook is connected to only Exchange or later accounts including Exchange Onlineyou see a message that states this feature is not available for the accounts currently configured. I have consulted my IT administrator who repeatedly confirmed that my settings are correct and everything should work. My organization uses Exchange Server My account credentials and Exchange server name are correct. Outlook is set to work online. My network connection is available.
The server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server is available. My Exchange account does not require me to log on by using an encrypted channel. My computer does not require a mail proxy server to connect to the Exchange server. My company uses Lync and that has stopped connecting as well. All of these were working at some point. However I can check my email on OWA on any other pc - windows or mac in the office and at home.
Other people are able to check their mail on my mac and I can access the internet on my mac with no problems. Since the problem arose, I uninstalled and reinstalled Office but when I go to create an Account in Outlook using my Exchange account, it just tells me that the authentication has failed.

This is the same connection that the Mail client in Mac would use if I was using it for email. Both machines are running OS Catalina I have recently discovered that they will no longer connect to the Microsoft Exchange server at work. I can't be sure but I believe this started when I upgraded to Catalina. Outlook connects fine and my iPhone and iPad are both connected as well. I deleted the Exchange account and tried to create a new one and still no luck.
