The intent is to provide general information that can be used while also providing the necessary support for that general information. Bosses hit Tanks, and harder Bosses tend to hit Tanks harder than easier Bosses. A Boss can have its Attack Power modified by a number of abilities, in which the Boss either gains or loses a fixed amount of Attack Power.
Furthermore, that same debuff reduces the damage of Nefarian by an even greater amount, but Razorgore by a much smaller amount. So how does Attack Power work for a Boss? An NPC operates somewhat similarly to a player in that they have two things that feed their autoattacks: a weapon and Attack Power. This is based upon the fact that some mobs can be disarmed, which lowers their damage output by a decent margin, and mobs can have their Attack Power reduced up to a specific point.
Bosses typically cannot be disarmed and I am aware of none in a raiding environment that can be perhaps ZG will change that. The reason we know that NPCs have a limited amount of Attack Power is because after a certain amount of reduction, based upon the level of the NPC, additional Attack Power reduction simply provides no further benefit.
As I said before, this is similar to a player character losing all their AP but still having a weapon to swing for base damage. NPCs receive an altogether more complicated amount that is a direct multiplier on their base damage.
This means that the damage formula for a Boss is:. WeaponDamage is the median base weapon damage. AverageAutoAttack is the median AP modified damage.
Further, like players, NPC weapons have a damage range that gives them the variability you see when Broodlord smacks you between 2, and 3, damage per swing. This variance value does not scale with Attack Power, but will benefit from other mechanics we will discuss later. The formula for NPC weapon variance is:.
Improved Curse of Weakness
In other words, if a Boss has a base weapon damage of 2, they have a range of damage between 1, and 2, if they have no Attack Power. Using these equations, I was able to determine what every boss in BWL has for their base weapon damage and variance. I can explain this process in a subsequent post but suffice it to say it only takes a parse or two for me to find the answer.
If a Boss has a known swing damage and has special attacks that are based upon their weapon swing remember Broodlord Lashlayerthen there is no guesswork as to just how much damage can be dealt by the Boss. So to start, here are the relative damage reductions from nothing to a single debuff:. Demoralizing Shout and Demoralizing Roar do not stack, but each of them respectively will stack with Curse of Recklessness and Screech.
So to put a very fine point on matters, here is the comparison between just having Curse of Recklessness up and also applying other debuffs:. Even with just an untalented Demoralizing Roar, your Tank will take Yes, this means that Broodlord and the Drake bosses hit equally hard on a per-hit basis.

If amplify cooldown is up and at least a minute left on the boss, ALL warlocks in the raid should be casting amplify curse of doom, as this is the highest DPS curse we have. This is the default curse any affliction lock should be using when amplify is not available for an amplified curse of doom.
Destro locks should use Curse of shadow on any bossfight, but not trashpulls. Curse of tongues - Most bosses are immune, so this is rarely an issue. For the few who can be, this is critical as it helps the interrupts hit correctly. After tank mitigation this is barely 10DPS reduction on the boss' damage. Normally this amount is small enough to not justify the loss of over DPS. Curse of Recklessness - While this reduces armor bythe increased AP on the boss can be bad idea.
Should be used to turn off badly timed fears. Posted by TheoryCraft at PM. No comments:. Newer Post Older Post Home. Subscribe to: Post Comments Atom. About Me TheoryCraft View my complete profile.Warlocks are a class of far too many key bindings and niche spells for niche situations.
Having a solid knowledge of macros will help you intelligently combine multiple actions to a single key, increase your responsiveness to emergent situations, and, to an extent, automate tedious tasks. My goal with this document is not only to list out what I have found to be the most commonly employed warlock macros, but to give you enough information so that you can begin to modify and even write your own macros going forward. For this reason, I strongly encourage you not to simply copy and paste these macrosand instead hope that you try to understand what the syntax means.
This document was originally written for the Classic Warlock Discord. Credits to DiveAnilusion There you can write, edit, and store macros either for your entire account if the macro is useful for multiple characters or for just the current character if you have a class-specific macro, for example. Then you will have to give the macro a name and an icon. This icon is special, because it will adapt to the functionality of the macro.
It will automatically attempt to find the appropriate icon based on the action performed by the macro. You might not think this is very useful, since you could have just had the spell on your action bar in place of the macro.
This macro will automatically use the highest rank of the spell! As you level, you will never need to replace Demon Armor with the new rank; just use this macro and you will automatically have the highest-rank spell available.
Macros are only useful if they save you time, key presses, or action bar slots. Getting the most out of a macro means having a basic knowledge of what a macro can do. This is called a conditional and it modifies the nature of the action being performed. Here are some of the basic actions a macro can perform:. You can have the sequence reset upon special circumstances. Here is the focus of the guide portion of this document. Target tags can be chained together as well.
These conditionals completely change the function of the macro when a modifier-key is held before pressing the key of the original macro. You must unbind the modified key combination to use these.
These conditionals change the function of the macro depending on which demon you currently have summoned. These are also self-explanatory. You might find several useful. A More Useful Macro Macros are only useful if they save you time, key presses, or action bar slots. Probably going to be your most-used type of macro command. Will induce a second cooldown on items with a Use effect.
Conditionals Here is the focus of the guide portion of this document. You can chain these together to make very nice macros. Mix and match them to suit your needs. Here are some of the most important conditionals, with a brief description of what they do: Targeting Target tags can be chained together as well. Good example being the previously shown Self-Devour macro. Make sure you have important curses, fear, spell lock, etc, on mouseover.Forgot your password?
As a Warlock you will have an array of damage abilities, but most of them will not be used in raids. Outside of raids you can use any of them that you want, and it will be a damage increase to keep DoTs up on enemies. Curses are a spell type that is unique to Warlocks, offering a range of powerful effects that the Warlock can cast upon an enemy.
Each Warlock can only use one curse on one enemy at a time, and multiple Warlocks cannot use the same curse on the same enemy. You will want to coordinate with your other Warlocks in a raid to determine who is in charge of what curse.
One of Warlock's core strengths is their unique and wide ranging utility spells that they bring. Warlocks are so core to a raid being able to function that many top guilds will require every member to have a level 20 Warlock alt to use Ritual of Summoning at various points in the world, along with being able to use Create Soulstone Lesser on every member of the raid during progression attempts by placing their Warlock alts outside of the raid.
These are the other various spells that Warlock has in its toolkit. Most of these are highly situational, and some will be rarely used at all. As a Warlock, you are able to summon a demon to be your pet that will fight by your side.
You have the choice of the 4 demons listed below, each obtained by completing class quests at various levels. You can only have one demon out a time, and each demon comes with its own set of abilities. Just like you, your pets have mana that they use to cast abilities, but they can only passively regenerate mana by not casting and following the 5-second rule. To heal them, you can use Health Funnel or let them passively regenerate.
As an important note, your Pets will not learn new abilities and ranks of spells on their own. You will need to visit Demon trainers, which are usually next to Warlock class trainers.
From the Demon trainers you can spend gold to buy Grimoires, which will teach the pets the various ranks and spells that they need to learn once you are the appropriate level. The Imp is the first pet that you will get, with the class quest being available from level 1 at your starting Warlock trainer. The Imp is a ranged pet that cannot auto attack, and will deal fire damage from range by casting Firebolt. The Imp also has quite a low health pool, and is highly susceptible to dying from even mild bursts of damage.
The Voidwalker is meant to be your tank pet, and used mostly while leveling. This is your lowest damage pet, but can generate enough threat to keep enemies off of you using its various abilities. The Voidwalker also has a much higher health pool than your other pets.
The Felhunter is a melee based pet that attacks targets to deal moderate damage. This is mainly a pet used for PvP since it has an interrupt ability, but also has the ability to purge an enemy or to dispel a friendly target, making it quite useful to have. The Succubus is a melee pet that is also mainly used in PvP, similar to the Felhunter.

Ignite Shadow Weaving Annihilator Nightfall Imp Shadowbolt This leaves us 2 spots open for debuffs when thunderfury isn't in the raidwhich are generally taken by Deep Wounds and Fireballs trash debuffs, lowest priority According to the information I've found, debuffs will only replace a debuff of equal or lower priority, starting with the lowest priority first.
Lately, we have been using things such as Gift of Arthas, Crystal Yield, Rake, Rupture, Mind Flay, Shadowburn and possibly a few others which will begin to remove medium priority debuffs such as Ignite.
Assuming we do everything correctly, not only should we never have a problem with the important debuffs getting clipped off, there should be room for warlocks to spec for Nightfall and use Corruption. Please feel free to criticize this list and let's see if we can work out what are the best possible debuffs to use in our raids.WoW Classic - Warlock PVE Guide - Specs / Pre Raid BiS Gear / Consumables / Stat Priority / DPS
Keep an eye out for undesirable debuffs. I'll ask tanks to stop using gift of Arthas, it is actually pretty crappy and unnecessary. Thunderfury applies 2 debuff slots instead of just one. Fortunately, due to blizzards own debuff priority system, this cannot happen, but a hunter could plausibly use a sting to knock off nightfall. To explain: There are 5 priorities in blizzards coding. When a new debuff is attempted to be used it will replace a lesser or equal priority.
It will attempt to replace the lowest priority first and then work its way up the priority ladder. If two equal priorities are up to be replaced the code is designed to replace the one with the least ammount of time remaining. A lower priority debuff cannot replace a higher priority one. Top priority is anything that takes away control from the NPC, this includes: CCs stuns, roots, polymorph etc Taunts High Priority is a mess of different abilities, but are mostly related to debuffs that are long-lasting and reduce armor effects.
It includes: Corruption shadow word pain garote etc.Curse of Recklessnessor CoR for short, was a Warlock Curse that caused the target to ignore all fear effects and reduced their armor but increased their attack power. He was corrupted by Nefarian and now serves him unwillingly. Vaelastrasz is considered one of the most intense fights WoW has yet to release. While the fight can be unbelievably frustrating taking some guilds months to get their first kill once he finally goes down it becomes a favorite of most people who experience it. Vaelastrasz is an intense, time-critical encounter.
Curse of Recklessness - Spells
It must be completed while Essence of the Red is active. Essence of the Red gives casters mana per second, rogues 50 energy per second, and warriors 20 rage per second. While it is active, mana, energy and rage conservation are non-issues, but it will wear off three minutes after the fight begins, and then healers will no longer be able to keep up with the damage being constantly dished out to the raid. Encounters with Vaelastrasz are often described as "won at " or "wiped at ".
Given the short time window, Vaelastrasz is most easily killed when the raid has tremendous DPS and adequate healing power. The encounter is a balancing act between threat control and DPS. It will test the raid's abilities on both counts. For the first attempt, Vaelastrasz will be lying on the floor, flagged as friendly.
The encounter will begin when the puller the first main tank talks to Vael. Should the raid wipe, Vaelastrasz will be positioned in the middle of the room and the raid must stick to the walls when getting repositioned. In this case, the main tank should approach Vaelastrasz head-on to begin the encounter safely.
Positioning for Vaelastrasz is critical because he has powerful raid-wiping attacks in both the front cleave and the rear tail swipe. These are some suggestions:. Hunters and the tanking line up should be positioned opposite the casters. Rogues will be meleeing Vaelastrasz broadside, staying between front and hind legs to avoid the rear tail swipe knockback and the front cleave attack.
Offtanks should be hacking away closer to Vael's front, around his shoulders, ready to move to the main tank's spot. To reduce healing strain, only the next warrior should move toward this position at a time, due to chaining cleaves. The rest should be in a similar position as the rogues. Melee DPS should be positioned at or just behind Vael's right shoulder don't get too close to his front.
