If we look closely, we see that his leadership was wrapped in humility and servanthood. Even for those in high leadership positions, we all ultimately submit to one Person, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus also led perfectly. And when we lead like Jesus, we leave a legacy that is shaped around Jesus.

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. Unfortunately, there is no checklist that guarantees results. Leadership is a chaotic and complex process of give and take, trial and error, and success and failure.
It requires perseverance and flexibility. Leaders engage people in the noble purpose of bringing about purposeful change. They cast a vision for a better world in which to live and work. Moreover, they help individuals see the specific roles they can play to bring about this vision.
People know who they are as an organization, why they exist, what they hope to accomplish, and how they intend to achieve it. People want to belong. God created us for community. I will make a helper suitable for him. Excluding others results in a greater sense of isolation and dissatisfaction. People care about each other, communicate effectively, and collaborate to fulfill a cause.
Without question, the leader serves as the model. They respect leaders who listen to their opinions even when their viewpoints differ. People want leaders who assign responsibility, allocate resources, and recognize results.

But have you ever stopped to ask the question, "Why do we want to grow?
Let's back all the way up to the core motivation s behind pursuing church growth. If you are a mortal human being and you're honest with yourself your motives may not be completely pure. Can you identify any impure motives such as "bigger and better than. It's only human to have such motives, but they can be dangerous when they go unchecked and become intermingled with the legitimate, pure motives.
In many cases, we'll attempt to hide our impure motives behind false modesty or spiritual jargon. Awareness of these impure motives is key and you'll be far more successful at keeping them in check if you can honestly acknowledge them. Pride is a rampant termite that has slowly devoured many a ministry. Pursuing church health principles instead of church growth principles allows us to focus on the legitimate desire to see our church flourish without some of the impure motivations that might trip us up.
As we pursue church health, we'll most likely experience church growth as a by product. This paradigm shift places the priority on keeping our church healthy and trusting God to do the rest.
Church health falls easily within our stewardship roles as church leaders. Church growth is God's department and the attendance of the church will ultimately grow or decline in accordance with His will. Most would agree this makes intuitive sense and yet how many of us live each day as if both health and growth were up to us? How many of us are trying to grow our congregations through prescriptive principles and strategic planning?
It can be very freeing to focus on what God has called us to do and let Him bring the people. If you're looking for church growth principles, here's one: church growth begins with church health, not the other way around.
We see in nature that healthy things grow. This is by no means a new concept, but it's still true. But how do you know if you're a healthy church? What can you use as a measuring stick? When creating a leadership development framework for your church, it should have four simple steps: learn, model, disciple, lead. Your leadership system should be multiplying by nature. You have to give away some of the responsibility. As you move into being an equipper and a multiplier, you begin to create a cycle of discipleship in your ministry. The shift you make towards leadership development today will empower you to lead your ministry for years.
Implementing a leadership development framework from the ground up can be intimidating. In order for a ministry shift to be successful, you have to build it on a foundation of mission and vision. Before your team will commit to a leadership development framework, they must buy into your mission first. Your team is already incredibly busy. In fact, it may do more harm than good.
Something may not seem like a big deal to you but may be a huge deal for a volunteer with limited time they can commit. Mission and vision statements should turn into something that is actually observable in your team as they align with your development system. After getting your team to buy in, the next step is to just do it. In order to do this, it has to be something that is constantly on our minds. This requires you to take inventory often to see how progress is being made.

You don't have to travel too far back in time to identify what would have been considered a typical church. It was small in numbers and size and limited to spiritual functions. That was fine, and it met the needs of that day. However, today is a new day. The needs that are brought to the church are complex and varied. The church has to offer more than a sanctuary and a sermon. The 21st-century church has been catapulted into arenas that were hardly accessed a few years ago.
It now offers so much more than just a sanctuary and a sermon. The 21st-century church is now a conglomerate, offering all the spiritual help it should and so much more. All of these facets require proper structures in place, qualified personnel to run them; qualified personnel require human resources and business management; and human resources and business management require the application of state and federal rules and regulations.
Someone has to be a steward of the interest of the church and its leadership. Sadly, we are living in a time when people are targeting ministries for litigation and ridicule! In years gone by, this would not be an issue. But today there are many instances in which the church needs someone watching the business while the pastor is watching the sheep. First, a church is an organism. As an organism, it is a complex structure of interdependent and subordinate elements whose relations and properties are largely determined by their function in the whole.
An organism is a basic unit constituted to carry on the activities of its life by means of parts separate in function but mutually dependent. Such an organism requires administration, good administration, if it is to be very effective. Sadly, we are living in a time when people are targeting ministries for litigation. A church is of God and people. There is an essential partnership between God and persons in the life and work of a church.
Church administration concerns itself with presenting the human element in the partnership equation as a disciplined, orderly, purposeful instrument to be directed and used of God as He sees fit. Church resources are limited. Church administration concerns itself with the overall guidance provided by church leaders as they utilize the spiritual, human, physical and financial resources of the church to enable the church move toward fulfilling its purpose and objectives.
On the human plane, church resources are limited. The limitation of resources makes management and administration of them more imperative.
